Born in 1966 in Istanbul, Sinan Demirtaş graduated from Mimar Sinan University Department of Fine Arts’s Painting in 1993. Same year he found the Akbank Culture Center’s Unique Press Workshop and Sinan Demirtaş’s Lithography Workshop in 1997. He worked as Akbank Culture Center’s Printing Workshop director between 1993 and 2004. Demirtas became third in International youth year competition 1979, Jury prize in New Trends Istanbul Exhibition 1994, Grand prize in 14. Esbank Yunus Emre Painting Competition with “Reflections” in 1998, State Painting Sculpture Unique Press Prize in 1999. Continuing his work heavily on photography, Demirtaş sees photography as the main tool to research realism in art, He intentionally avoids photorealistic images in his work in order to portray a subjective wold. Capturing his subjects from multiple angles and later combines these images in his mind to project his personal interpretation and places them in an abstract environment to reflect subject’s inner world. Bringing a more up to date approach to Portrait which is one of the most important themes in painting, creating anatomic details that almost overflows out of frame in a two dimensionally limited canvas. Holds his first personal exhibition in Taksim Art Gallery in 1996 with “Roads” title, teaches at Yeditepe University Faculty of Fine Art and continues his work in Istanbul.
